Funny thing is, I went several years without even celebrating Halloween. And when I did, I would be one of those guys who would go somewhere w/o a costume, then wish I had worn one when I saw others having fun in theirs. Well, that’s changed over the past couple years. I have gotten into the spirit and even worn costumes! Hahaha..but this year it’s going down BIGGER than ever with a couple nice shows to help get mi inna mood to chase vampire! Here’s whatz up:

When the long standing Dub Mission Resident DJ Sep first approached Mochipet to do a Dub rendition of his tune “Get Your Whistle Wet” off of his 2008 Release “Microphonepet” he was honored. But little did he know she would recruit the help of fellow artists Jason Short, DJ Collage, and Juakali . The result is a mending of both Dub and Techno pulling from both Sep and Short’s backgrounds. You add that with the vocal stylings of DJ Collage and Juakali and the end result is nothing short of Bass Heavy, Tech Bouncing Goodness. This is for the lovers of Dub and Glitch Basslines. Back in 2006, I completed a 12 track recording that I called ‘The Parlor”. It was due to be released that summer on a Seattle- based indie label. But right before the release, miscommunications broke out between me and the label and I decided not to release it with them after all. Never getting a proper release, I only sold it at live performances. And while it got nice reviews from publications like The Stranger and Seattle weeky, the local electronic community didn’t bite. One on-line heckler even said the CD was so weak that I “gave it out to whoever would talk to me”. But still the CD did get some minor airplay on several different KEXP programs and was eventually licensed to Third Side Music in Montreal for music placement in television programs. Recently, a track from it was used in “Webdreams”- a Canadian reality show about the porn industry and the track “Satisfaction” will be used in an upcoming Fuel TV wakeboarding program.

These tracks my favorite moments from The Parlor, so if u missed it the first time, tune in and enjoy…

The end of the 80’s….John Hughes RIP..

Well, I read online earlier this year that this would be the last year for 80’s styles and flashbacks since next year will mark 20 years past the classic decade. And with losing an 80’s musical icon such as Michael Jackson, and today losing John Hughes, I might just have to accept it is over. I was definitely a product of the 80’s and experimented with my gheri curls, waves and a shag. (A Shag was a mullet for black ppl, think Lionel Ritchie) And I was a huge fan of the John Hughes movies such as: Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, etc. and had a pretty big crush on Molly Ringwald. And altho these movies portrayed a very different Chicago from which I saw, I still related to the “coming of age” stories and how the music soundtrack was very important to the storyline and as important as the movie itself. I do truly miss what those movies symbolized, cos times are truly different these days. Oh well, I do have Pretty in Pink on DVD, which I think I’ll watch tonite in dedication to John Hughes and his classic “coming of age” Chicago movies….RIP
